Mike Kennedy’s 2011 Federal Election Blog – Part 2
Dear One & All,
It has been an exciting second week of the 2011 Federal Election, or #elxn41, as it is referred to in the Twittersphere. Each of the major federal parties revealed their platforms, and candidates continued to use social media to connect with voters.
There are over 400 federal election candidates using Twitter to reach new demographics of voters. Over the past week, I sent close to 400 tweets, asking all tweeting candidates:
If elected, what will you and your party do to ensure the federal government establishes a minimum standard of drug coverage for all Canadians?
Responses have begun to flow in. In Part III of my blog starting next week (April 18th), I’ll highlight some of these responses. In the meantime, you can monitor C2CC’s Twitter feed to catch a real-time glimpse of what the candidates are saying.
This week, I’m turning my attention to the election platforms of each of the major federal parties. I welcome you to check in each day as I offer commentary on where each party’s stance on a National Catastrophic Drug Coverage plan. I encourage you to do your homework on which party has the best strategy for tackling the rising cost of drugs and for ensuring that where you live doesn’t determine if you live by looking at each party’s platform (in order of platform release date):
• Liberal Party – Your Family, Your Future, Your Canada (pg 37-38)
• Green Party – Vision Green (pg 77)
• Conservative Party – Low-Tax Plan for Jobs and Economic Growth (pg 30)
• New Democratic Party – Giving Your Family a Break (Pg 11)
